The consultation on the democratization of fractional lot data ends next week, but further solutions to order protection concerns may be needed.
Trading in the U.S. stock market is based on what many market participants consider to be an anachronism. In other words, we use round lots (100 shares) as the standard trading unit, and orders for less than 100 shares are considered fractional lots.
For most of stock market history, fractional shares accounted for a relatively unimportant share of liquidity, but starting around 2015, fractional shares began to account for an increasing proportion of all exchange transactions. This is mainly due to the shift of individual investors
