The Ports of San Diego and Ensenada this week celebrated 20 years of sister port relationship and cooperation in regional economic development.
Both ports held a ceremony and reception at the Port Pavilion at Broadway Pier with dignitaries, partners and stakeholders from each region.
Wednesday’s event was attended by the leadership teams and key staff from both ports, San Diego City Councilmember Vivian Moreno, Mexican Consul General Alicia Palma, and senior officials from the state of Baja California.
“Baja California’s strong bilateral relationships with its neighbors provide mutual benefits that extend to each region’s local economy,” said Frank Arterson, Chairman of the Port of San Diego Board of Directors. “After 20 years of successful sister port relations, we look forward to seeing what we can achieve over the next 20 years.”
According to Lieutenant General Joel Sandoval Gómez, Director General of the Port of Ensenada, the Ensenada National Port System Authority aims to strengthen and promote the development of the port and its relationships in order to promote economic growth in the region. Masu.
“This memorandum of understanding (MOU) shows how good cooperation can be beneficial to both regions (San Diego and Ensenada),” he said.

Expanding Cruise Business Opportunities: Ports are working to capitalize on the growing demand for cruise tourism to attract more cruise ships. The partnership between the two companies facilitates short-term travel to Baja, other California ports, and Hawaii. Aquaculture: This promotes sustainable aquaculture practices, supports local economies and promotes environmental stewardship. Ferry service between Ensenada and San Diego: Ferry service is planned between Ensenada and San Diego, facilitating travel between the United States and Mexico.
