Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent speech at the United Nations in New York was aimed at “deceiving” Hezbollah commander-in-chief Hassan Nasrallah and giving him a false sense of security, Israel says. a senior official told the Telegraph.
The purpose of the diversionary plan was to make Prime Minister Nasrallah believe that Israel would not take major military action in Netanyahu’s absence.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu authorized the attack before speaking at the United Nations,” the official said.
The Israel Defense Forces announced Saturday that Nasrallah, who led Hezbollah since 1992, was killed in Friday’s Beirut attack.
The Israel Defense Forces said the attack targeted Hezbollah’s central headquarters, which the group had built under a residential building.
