Stock market holidays are non-business days on weekends when the two major U.S. stock exchanges, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq, are closed on those days. These days often closely follow the federal holiday schedule and include major holidays such as Labor Day and Thanksgiving.
Regular business hours for both exchanges are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET. The market is not open on weekends.
If the holiday falls on a weekend, the stock market may close on the Friday before the holiday, such as Good Friday or Easter. Otherwise, the following Monday will be a holiday.
As summer ends and we move into fall, check out the latest holiday calendar for the stock and bond markets.
